[edit] 7w1

I don't actually see much wrong with 7w1, even though its not adjacent.

According to my understanding of the "inner logic" of the Enneagram, types work something like this:

2: over-identifies with emotions 3: out-of-touch with emotions 4: under-identifies with emotions 5: over-identifies with thoughts 6: out-of-touch with thoughts 7: under-identifies with thoughts 8: over-identifies with instincts 9: out-of-touch with instincts 1: under-identifies with instincts

(Some of that sounds counter-intuitive but it does work, and I can explain it if you want but right now its secondary to my point)

Basically, it doesn't make sense to be something like a 7w5, to simultaneously over- and under-identify with your thoughts. 7w6 works because one can conceivably under-identify with thoughts and also be a bit out of touch with them (its like a spectrum), and 7w8 works because under-identifying with thoughts and over-identifying with instincts aren't mutually exclusive.

However, I see no reason why you can't simultaneously under-identify with both thoughts and instincts, so 7w1 doesn't sound as odd as it looks when you glance at it.

Alternatively, have you considered the idea of tritypes? --Isha 19:04, 29 March 2009 (BST
I second this. I believe one of the core ideas about Ones is the "internal critic". "Social mission" is just about vague enough to fit quite a few types. For instance Eights might want to fight against dishonesty and "bullshit", Sixes could champion against corruption, Twos could go in for charity and whatnot. If your drive doesn't come from internally weighing/measuring yourself and finding yourself not up to scratch, I would doubt that you are a One. I think the next thing to do is also look at instincts and stackings thereof.
Also, the wings are a bit... terrible. 7w6 somehow becomes "the cheerleader". I'm not sure which elements of Sixdom contribute to this.
That would be the Six's "loyality", I would imagine. --Isha 19:21, 29 March 2009 (BST)

According to the Enneagram Institute, people also highly identify with their intergration and disintegration types, so if you were a 7, it is not strange that you would identify with fives and ones as well. The problem with my conception of a 7w1 is that sevens are the most instinctually attuned of the thinking types; a lot of the things they do are done on impulse and guided by their whims. At the same time, ones try their hardest to ignore and control the very impulses that are characteristic of sevens. From what you've written, I think Seven is probably your enneatype. Wow, thanks for the responses, everyone. --Admin 20:51, 29 March 2009 (BST)

Are you aware that E1 and E7 are connected on the Enneagram (via Security/Stress movement)? Stormy 15:13, 26 May 2009 (BST)
