Socionic Type Formulas

In an attempt to express the essence of what socionic types are, many socionists have tried to express the functioning or societal mission of each type in as few words as possible. One of the ways of doing this is to look at the first two functions which describe a sort of type 'program.' Here are some ways of looking at the relationship between the first and second functions.

  1. The 1st is objective and simply mirrors reality, while the 2nd introduces an element of individual interpretation
  2. The 1st describes what one does always (or almost always), while the 2nd describes the way the 1st function's program is realized
  3. The 2nd describes the areas one works with, while the 1st describes the goal
  4. The 1st is the end, the 2nd is the means (this one certainly sounds the neatest!)

I have also indulged a bit in these logical "games" and present the following chart. This is not meant to be be definitive or to be taken too seriously, but is just something to think about.

Reduced formulas of socionic types: what each type does best:

type
work with and modify this area (2nd function) to achieve harmony and preserve integrity in this area (1st function)
