Viktor Yanukovich

Ukrainian prime minister
SLE (Conqueror)
Виктор Янукович

Comments:
Yuschenko's opponent in the 2004 presidential election that led to the famous Orange Revolution. A die-hard career bureaucrat, but also a power figure who has sometimes resorts to displays of anger and allegedly even physical blows to intimidate the wayward and disobedient.

Vladimir Lenin

Russian communist revolutionary
SLE (Conqueror)
В.И. Ленин
Отношения с женой

Comments:
A man with great charisma and a commanding presence, full of forcefulness and unbending will. Also wrote a great deal of works on politics and the economy, but these works did not have lasting academic value. Considerably more flexible in his decision making than his successor Stalin (LSI). Typical energetic speaking pose at upper right.

Winston Churchill

British politician and author
SLE (Conqueror)
Уинстон Черчилль

Comments:
Energetic, ambitious, intelligent, articulate, artistic, independent, and rebellious. Wife was IEI, by my estimation, and they enjoyed a happy marriage, including occasional heated arguments. Nonetheless, Churchill dealt with periods of depression, which he called his "black dog." Churchill was always fascinated with wars and battle and went out of his way to observe wars in action in addition to reading books about war, thus gaining great theoretical and practical insight into war strategy and geopolitical power struggles. In his works on military history he views history as a succession of wars and political struggles of ambitious leaders, ignoring the importance of cultural development and social and economic factors. Churchill Inspired countrymen with his courage and unbending will during times of war, while still remaining a advocate of democracy. Rose to his greatest heights during World War II and its immediate aftermath.

Brief amateur biography of Churchill - this bio correctly focuses on Churchill's war-time successes and peace-time failures. Growing external aggression brought Churchill to power as a person who could withstand the Nazi threat. In peacetime he was considered something of a war hawk, but during war he was brilliant.

Marlon Brando

American actor
SLE (Conqueror)
Марлон Брандо

Comments:
I have no doubts as to his type. Full of primal, impulsive, lusty energy. Independent and rebellious, yet rudderless. Expressions convey lust, impulsiveness, and disdain for others. Strongly reminiscent of Rutger Hauer (see below). Considered one of the finest and most influential actors of his era. Was famous for his uncontrollable gluttony, family problems, and lack of direction in life in addition to the unforgettable symbol of youth rebellion he created. Preferred to play controversial characters — treacherous scumbags who managed to evoke sympathy in the audience through unexpected displays of vulnerability and tender feelings.

Here is how Anthony Hopkins characterizes Brando: "There was an animal magnetism about him... He was a really natural, raw animal, and... pure instinct and pure intelligence... and relaxation."

(The rest of these interviews can be skipped after watching the first one). This interview develops a good Beta Quadra atmosphere between Brandon and the EIE interviewer.

Discussion:

>> On Marlon Brando. I would argue that his "raw energy" was mainly fake, not the real person. A guy whose goals in life obviously were (1) laze about in Tahiti during years, working only when about to run out of money, (2) eat, getting enormously fat, instead of doing anything about it, (3) get involved into own personal political causes, more a consequence of personal conviction rather than to achieve something does not sound SLE to me.

Actually, the first two points are quite common among extraverted sensers. Those with even a slight tendency towards heaviness easily become addicted to consumption and can become quite overweight. People like Elvis or Brando or Liz Taylor or Rutger Hauer (who all have struggled with excess weight) are mild compared to cases of extreme obesity I've seen.

Lazing about can be typical of just about any type. The main criteria for SLE is that a person constantly sends out signals that he is ready for battle and willing to exert pressure and "consume" external objects. There are plenty of lazy SLE's who display all of this and yet don't achieve anything in life. But this doesn't change the fact that their relationships are defined by them constantly conveying signals of extraverted sensing — physical expansion, including faked and real threats, strong words, heavy, squinting gazes, and strong and impulsive physical behavior. This image is what Brando became famous for, if I understand his biographers correctly.

In addition to being memorable as a ruthless, heartless character with "raw energy" in movies, Brando was a semi-despot in his own home and had little love for his kids.

If extraverted sensing were not his leading function, other types of signals would have come across more clearly than what I've described here, and it would be obvious that his strong, heavy look was a fleeting aspect of his behavior. Plus, he wouldn't have been able to portray it so convincingly that he became famous specifically for that. It would have made more sense for him to develop a different persona that he would be much more effective in.

Discussion of Marlon Brando at the16types forum.

>> I have to say that having read Brando's own memoirs - "Songs my mother taught me" - I can see a very strong case for SLE, although a lot still seems ILE to me. However, even if torn between SLE and ILE from his life and writings, I agree that visually the balance is tipped towards SLE.

Colin Powell

Former U.S. Secretary of State
SLE (Conqueror)
Колин Пауэлл

Comments:
Commanding voice and demeanor.

Madeleine Albright

Former U.S. Secretary of State
SLE (Conqueror)
Мадлен Олбрайт

Comments:
Tough and ready for confrontation. Typical facial expression on left.

Anthony Hopkins

Welsh-American actor
SLE (Conqueror)
Alternatives: LSI
Энтони Хопкинс

Comments:
Quite reminiscent of Rutger Hauer (see below). Concentrated, calculating, and somewhat fearsome — at least in his movies. In real life he is more relaxed and quiet, but with a sharp wit and cutting language. Is a heavyweight aristocratic thespian with a great sense of drama. Likes to play in serious movies with a strong psychological component. Exudes determination and readiness to do whatever necessary to achieve his goal. The head cocked slightly forward with a cold, intense gaze is a typical SLE look and is exhibited by virtually all SLEs in my collection. Known for his periodic heavy drinking, brawls, and restlessness (until middle age).

Dick Cheney

U.S. Vice President
SLE (Conqueror)
Дик Чейни

Comments:
Known for his off-color remarks and strong language. Commonly perceived by the American public as a warmonger. Directed the Desert Storm Operation as Secretary of Defense under George Bush Sr. Always had a strong interest in political science. Has been a heavy drinker at times.

Mike Tyson

American boxer
SLE (Conqueror)
Майк Тайсон

Comments:
The embodiment of raw animal energy.

Rutger Hauer

Dutch Hollywood actor
SLE (Conqueror)
Рутгер Хауэр

Observations:
A lone wolf kind of leader. Composed in any situation. Intense, heavy gaze. Commanding presence. Has a sense of his own uniqueness. Unpredictable and independent behavior. Smiles do not convey acceptance of others, but rather slyness. Watch others' reactions closely (like a hunter) and likes to scare people for fun.

Additional comments:
Rutger Hauer is a prolific and powerful actor. He likes to play "brutally realistic" roles and strong but ambiguous heroes in the gray area between "good" and "bad." He likes to play in films that deal with fundamental human drives — power, sex, money, and control. He draws others with his calm control of situations, but remains distant and independent from his followers. He does not need muscles to instill fear or respect, but has a certain fearless confidence about him. He can be ruthless and has no qualms about exerting force if necessary, but does revel in it like many weaker men. He is always tracking the balance of power. When something unexpected happens, he waits and observes others to understand how the balance of power has changed before acting. He likes to use strong language and provocation.
