Comments:
Darwin's meticulous study of natural phenomena combined with a great intuitive sense of the timescale of natural processes led to the first viable formulation of evolution theory. Although his theory had been ready for a while, he took his time in publishing his book The Origin of Species. Darwin intentionally skirted controversial issues such as whether evolution applied to man rather than create an uproar. He often was dismayed that his theory, which he had gathered undeniable proof for, was causing such contention in society. He himself was not at all outspoken and was more than pleased to have others defend his theories in public, though he eagerly read about the continuing debates. Darwin was quite dry, formal, and seemed to have a distaste for social events and the hustle and bustle of public life. It was his circle of scientist friends who pushed his theory through for him.

Augusta initially typed Darwin as an ILE, probably based on the misassumption that Darwin had created the theory himself, and that the creation of new theories is most often the work of ILEs (but then again, Darwin didn't really "create" his theory; he developed an existing set of theories and was the first to fully substantiate them and link them together). Since then this view has been debunked, and a number of thinkers who had previously been considered ILEs are now securely in the ranks of other types. In favor of Darwin's introversion is his tendency to limit the subject of study and discussion and have deep, focused interests rather than to apply new ideas to everything possible and write on all conceivable topics of interest (which is what Huxley did). Also, he tended to delay telling others of his ideas until they were fully formed, which is the opposite of what extraverted intuition types do. His thinking was rather slow and plodding, but systematic and meticulous.

An example of the ironic realism of ILIs is this anecdote from Wikipedia:

Scientifically pondering his career and prospects he drew up a list with columns headed "Marry" and "Not Marry". Entries in the pro-marriage column included "constant companion and a friend in old age... better than a dog anyhow," while listed among the cons were "less money for books" and "terrible loss of time." The pros won out.

For a more personal look at what Charles Darwin was like, read this.

I highly recommend a biography of Darwin called Darwin: The Life of a Tormented Evolutionist, as well as his original writings shown here in the right-hand column to gain an understanding of why they were so revolutionary. Also, his letters and writings are partially available on the web here.

Майкл Мор

(Moore may be moved to the IEI page after I do more research)

Comments:
Maker of Fahrenheit 9/11. Likes to sniff out dirty secrets and real-life horror stories caused by the senseless policies of the powers that be. Likes ridicule and satire and enjoys stating unpopular opinions in public in a goofy, ironic way.

Discussion:

>> I've heard IEE proposed as a type for Michael Moore as well, although I really think ILI works better!

Well, I'm not entirely convinced myself yet, but ILI seems likely.

Stanley Kubrick

American film director
ILI (Critic)
Стэнли Кубрик

Observations:
Focused on inner world. Flaccid body, limp poses and lackadaisical attitude. Can become suddenly intense and demanding. Unkempt and unconcerned about his appearance. Dreamy and imaginative; thinking is "out of this world." Nutty and idiosyncratic. Subdued and often melancholic. Tends to dwell on 'dark' or negative aspects of things.

Additional comments:
Stanley Kubrick is one of the most recognized filmmaking masters. His films are known for their "meticulous attention to detail and a detached, often ironic pessimism" (Britannica Concise Encyclopedia, 2003). Common themes are dehumanization, fear, war, and the dark side of human nature. Kubrick liked to show with irony and pessimism the brutal and irrational nature of man. His films are open for subjective interpretation by viewers (unlike, for instance, Spielberg's movies, which are straightforward and convey specific ideas). Kubrick is known for his technical prowess and for being a "relentless, near-obsessive perfectionist" (link) as well as an idiosyncratic recluse. In fact, he was strongly disliked by many of the people he worked with. At the same time, he left behind a strong family and devoted friends.
