Humorous interview with Woody Allen from the late 60s: part 1 - part 2
Here his rationality is evident compared to Woody Allen.
Sample of Billy Graham preaching
Observations:
Slick, honed appearance. Warm, expressive face.
Comments:
His "I just love it all" attitude is typical for ESEs. Very emotionally warm and articulate in interviews. Voice has very rich intonation. Music has a feel-good quality and is almost always upbeat, never dark or mysterious.
Benson keeps a steady, well-defined beat in his music instead of letting the rhythm and percussion drop out now and then or frequently slowing and speeding up the rhythm, which seems to be a trait of most irrational players/composers. He performs music that has a consistent mood or ambience all the way through. He is a master interpreter and puts color and feeling into compositions. In addition to his expressive guitar, he has an equally expressive voice (here's a sample) full of feeling and flair.

George Benson Program and Interview - part 2
Note how all his fellow musicians love him. Note Benson's voice fluctuations and modulations (typical signals) and his uniform joyful attitude. He is a person who generates a lot of fun around him.

>> Re: "Music has a feel-good quality and is always upbeat. Benson keeps a clear, steady beat in his music instead of letting the percussion drop out now and then and slowing and speeding up the rhythm, which seems to be a trait of most irrational players/composers."
How much of Benson's music have you actually listened to in order to be able to express that statement?? I am quite sure that if you do a little research through his work you'll find him doing lots of what you say he isn't doing. Anyhow, I think your statement is too generalized and is not much of an argument.
Re: "Benson is more of a master interpreter of others' music than a composer (much like pianist Vladimir Horowitz)."
Sorry, but that comparison is just absurd. If you were more into music, you would know that most new generation jazz musicians are mainly interpreters. And "composing" is a totally different term in modern music... It's something that is included in the freedom of the interpreter, in the improvisation, in the arrangements etc...
Sorry, but I really don't think your arguments on Benson's type hold. Not saying that he isn't ESE nor that your observations are incorrect, just that the overall review on your site is a bit too vague to me.
I have changed or removed some of the wording and added others. Maybe you'll find it more acceptable. In actuality, none of my comments are arguments, since I typed him based on his interview and behavior, voice, and body qualities in the music videos. I don't need to know everything about him to type him, since his type lies on the surface. The only other conceivable type would be SEE, but he doesn't display any signals in the interview, but sticks to the whole time. |
Comments:
Uses rich voice modulations and literally forces audiences to laugh, much like Robin Williams. Humor centers around funny scenes from everyday family life.

Sample of stand-up routine: "Chocolate Cake"
Bill Cosby on Dr. Phil
Cosby almost never speaks in what you might call an "everyday normal voice." He's always playing around with it to create an emotional impression that can't be ignored.
